hey amii, what you reading?

So as part of my journey through books, I've ben trying to expose myself to a wide variety of novelists from modern to classic over a range of subjects. I am naturally drawn to 21st Century writings (perhaps late 20th Century), but I do push myself to read outside of this, so I picked up

It's funny because my Great Grandfather is originally from Portlaoise, which is about an hour or so from Dublin. I didn't know until after I picked the pick book up but now I'm even more glad I did.

hey amii, what you watching?

Amii. No. Aimee. No. Amy. That's the one.

I saw the documentary for the late Amy Winehouse, which is simply titled Amy. We all know the story, or rather we all think we know the story. I personally didn't know the story - I wasn't particularly a fan of her's, I knew her music and what the media used of her, but other than that I was quite disinterested in her life.

This film is a real eye-opener into just how tragic Amy Winehouse's life was from her year battle with depression and bulimia to her drug addiction - which personally I think was a "Blake" addiction. Of Course, Blake Fielder, Amy's ex-husband, and her father Mitch Winehouse don't come off too well in this harrowing and heartbreaking tale.

We all know the ending, but it doesn't make it any easier.

Better late than never, I saw Slow West last week. It came out on Friday and is an interesting take on the western genre.

I think the film lacks a lot throughout until the final moments and you could almost be forgiven for thinking it is an excellent film because of this. I thought it was a good film, but a lot of the story hinges on the climax.

I was very surprised after viewing the film that many critics have given Slow West 4*, but it is beautifully shot, like they all suggest, though it is hard not to have been with the finest mountain ranges New Zealand has to offer.

Well, I'm not watching it now, but I did see it earlier this week and it goes on nationwide release from today.

I didn't watch the TV series, so I didn't know what I was going into when the invite to preview of this film happened upon me. I think that was probably a good thing. Not because the film was bad... Well, actually, maybe.

I think if you have been an avid fan of the TV series, you might enjoy the film, just for old times' sake, but I wouldn't bother if you're not.

The film they were making in this film looked more interesting than the film I was actually watching.

hey amii, what you reading?

I have an amusing story to tell about my reading habits, but perhaps that's for another day. In the meantime, I'm going to share with you what I have been reading. Currently, I'm on this;

- "Americana" by Don Delillo

"Americana" by Don Delillo

When I started this whole reading malarky, I found myself wandering between two authors, Chuck Palahniuk and Bret Easton Ellis. The latter said the former was like a modern-day Don DeLillo. So I've decided to read his work.

where have you been?

Whilst you've all been sullying around waiting for something interesting to pop up in your lives, I've been, well, doing the exact same thing. But about two years after humdrumingly floating through Wordpress with my domain name and blog, I found myself near expiration. Not my actual self, of course, but my Wordpress self. What better time to jump ship and get onboard a shiny new play thing. And here we all are, together again on my shiny new thing.

I hope you enjoy.
